That said, it is important to note that while this feature is definitely being tested, it is currently available for select users on Edge Canary via Microsoft's controlled rollout strategy. As spotted by Reddit user u/Leopeva64-2, Edge Canary now features a down arrow instead of the lock icon in the address bar. The company stated that it is exploring the possibility of replacing the lock icon with a down arrow in Chrome:Īlthough Google has not rolled out the change to Chrome Stable yet, it appears that Microsoft agrees with Google's stance and is considering implementing it in Edge as well. However, as noted by Google back in July, many users misunderstand this representation and think that the icon indicates that you're connected to a trustworthy website even though that may not necessarily be the case. Many web browsers like Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge use a lock icon in the address bar to indicate that you're connected to the website via a secure HTTPS connection.

Chrome has many useful features built in, including automatic full-page translation and access to thousands of apps, extensions, and themes from the Chrome Web Store. Desktop shortcuts allow you to launch your favorite Web apps straight from your desktop. Thumbnails of your top sites let you access your favorite pages instantly with lightning speed from any new tab. Use one box for everything-type in the address bar and get suggestions for both search and Web pages. Google Chrome is a browser that combines a minimal design with sophisticated technology to make the web faster, safer, and easier. You spend much of your time online inside a browser: when you search, chat, email, shop, bank, read the news, and watch videos online, you often do all this using a browser. The web browser is arguably the most important piece of software on your computer. Do I have any other options that I have missed? I am not quite fond of Click&Clean, History Eraser and others that simply delete the history after exiting the browser (or after clicking a button). All it did was corrupt my Chrome profile, lol. This does not seem to work for me either. There were a few files in %APPDATA% that apparently when locked would prevent history logging. Now that the past few versions have broken these and the developers are unable to update their work, I am not left with many options that I know of.

There was also another extension with the same name that functioned the same. Until a month or two ago when the extensions stopped working, I was using No History. I have an extension called Always Clear Downloads which does just that for my downloads. I want my cache and cookies to remain there, just no browsing history. Sure, there is Incognito if I want to prevent the logging of nearly everything. Unfortunately, there is still no option to prevent the logging of history. I have been using Google Chrome as my main browser for almost two years now.
